Canguard Mortgage Investment Corporation requires a minimum initial investment of $10,000 Canadian, however further contributions can be made in smaller denominations. For more information please contact invest@canguard.ca
Dividends are calculated at the end of each quarter and distributed within 30 days of quarter end. The Canadian Income Tax Act requires that 100% of a MIC’s net income, as verified by an external audit, be distributed to shareholders. As Canguard values shares at $1 per share, therefore, dividends vary depending on net income for the quarter.
Distributions are taxed as interest income because the returns are generated from interest earned on the underlying mortgage portfolio. Investors receive a T5 tax slip at the end of each year reporting the income earned for tax purposes.
A Mortgage Investment Corporation (MIC) pools capital from investors and lends those funds to qualified borrowers in the form of mortgages secured by real estate. The interest and fees earned on these mortgages are distributed to investors as dividends. MICs provide an alternative source of financing for borrowers who may not meet traditional bank lending criteria, while offering investors access to a diversified mortgage portfolio designed to generate consistent income.
Canguard MIC invests in residential, commercial and construction mortgages with a focus on major urban centers within British Columbia and Alberta, Canada. Canguard MIC invests in 1st, 2nd, and inter-alia mortgages with a focus on short-term, bridge financing, and open term mortgages.
